  • To protect Jambo FM, our staff, users, sources, partners, systems, rights, property, and the public.

6. Legal Bases for Processing

Depending on the context, we rely on one or more of the following grounds:

  • Consent, for example optional analytics cookies, marketing communications, or participation where consent is required.
  • Contract or pre-contract steps, for example responding to service, advertising, event, or partnership requests.
  • Legitimate interests, for example platform security, editorial operations, service improvement, audience measurement, abuse prevention, and business administration, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation, for example tax, regulatory, court, licensing, broadcasting, online content, and data protection obligations.
  • Public interest and journalism, where processing is connected to lawful media, news, editorial, public safety, public interest, or accountability functions.
  • Vital interests or safety, where necessary to protect life, health, security, or emergency interests.

7. News, Editorial, and Public Content

Jambo FM is a media organization. Information submitted to us may be reviewed by editorial staff and may be used for reporting, verification, corrections, investigations, public interest coverage, or audience engagement. We take reasonable steps to assess accuracy, fairness, privacy, and safety, but you should not submit confidential, sensitive, or third-party personal data unless you have authority to do so or there is a lawful public interest reason.

8. User Content, Comments, Tips, and Messages

If you submit content, you are responsible for ensuring it is lawful, accurate to the best of your knowledge, and does not infringe rights or expose others to harm. We may review, edit, refuse, remove, archive, or disclose submitted content where necessary for moderation, editorial decisions, legal compliance, safety, security, or dispute handling.

9. Artificial Intelligence, Automation, and Editorial Tools

We may use internal or third-party tools to assist with translation, transcription, narration, summaries, moderation support, analytics, search, verification, image checks, assistant chat, and workflow automation. These tools support human decision-making and service operations. Please avoid submitting unnecessary sensitive or confidential information into AI tools. Read our AI Transparency Notice for more detail.

10. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use essential cookies and local storage to operate the Services and remember cookie choices. If you accept optional cookies, we may also use analytics, advertising, and embedded-media technologies. You can manage cookie choices through the cookie banner, the Cookie Settings link in the footer, and browser settings. Read the full Cookie Policy.

11. How We Share Personal Data

We may share personal data only where lawful, necessary, and proportionate, including with:

  • Hosting, cloud, security, analytics, email, communication, storage, backup, payment, advertising, streaming, media, AI, translation, and technical service providers.
  • Professional advisers, auditors, insurers, lawyers, and compliance consultants.

  • Third-party platforms you choose to use, such as YouTube, social media, maps, or external links.
  • Regulators, courts, law-enforcement authorities, government bodies, or other parties where required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, security, or public interest.
  • Potential buyers, successors, or restructuring parties if Jambo FM is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, sale, transfer, or reorganization, subject to appropriate safeguards.

12. International Transfers

Some providers or platforms may process data outside Tanzania. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we aim to use lawful transfer mechanisms, appropriate safeguards, contractual protections, data minimization, and security measures as required by applicable law.

13. Data Retention

We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including service operation, editorial archiving, legal compliance, tax and accounting, dispute resolution, security, investigation, and regulatory records. Retention periods vary by data type and legal need. When data is no longer required, we delete, anonymize, aggregate, or securely archive it.

14. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including access controls, authentication, role-based permissions, logging, backups, encryption where appropriate, staff confidentiality, security monitoring, and vendor review. No internet service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

15. Your Privacy Rights

Subject to applicable law and verification of your identity, you may request to:

  • Access personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
